Juried selection process
JURIED SHOWCASE SELECTION PROCESS
  • Juried Showcase Application forms are posted online in mid-January each year.  The deadline to apply is the end of March.
  • An artist selection committee reviews all the applications.
  • Using the criteria outlined below, the selection committee makes recommendations on which artists should be showcased.
  • The committee is made up of touring artists, knowledgeable representatives of professional and volunteer presenting organizations from the adult and/or young audience sector, and Ontario Contact staff.
  • Applicants are notified of the results by email no later than June 1st each year.

Criteria for showcasing:
  • Excellence or artistic merit is the principal criterion.
  • Showcase artists must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada.
Other factors which will influence the selection:
  • The organization’s touring experience and the ability to market a tour.
  • Organizations or artists who have the experience and willingness to develop audiences in communities through programs such as residencies, workshops, etc.
  • Diversity of art forms and styles that meet different audience needs.
  • Preference will be given to artists who have not showcased at Ontario Contact in recent years.
Programming Showcases:
Programming decisions are based on meeting the criteria, type of programming, technical requirements and overall balance in programming.

Showcase Guidelines:
  • Showcases are 15 - 20 minutes long and must represent what is being offered on tour.
  • Technical support will be provided at the venue.
  • The artist must supply specialty technical equipment.
  • A list of technical equipment available will be sent to artists selected to showcase.
